Does HubSpot have email verification?
Only for your own sending address. HubSpot sends a confirmation link to the address in the From field before it lets you use it, and that is where its verification ends. It does not look up whether the mailbox behind a contact exists before you email that contact for the first time.
What HubSpot does do is react after the fact. When a message hard bounces, the contact is marked and future marketing email to that address is suppressed. That protects you from bouncing on the same address twice, but the first bounce has already happened and already counted against your sending reputation and your account's bounce rate.
That is fine when contacts arrive one at a time through your own forms. It becomes a problem the day you import a trade show list, a purchased list, a list from a sales rep who left, or a database that has not been emailed in a year. Those imports are where a single send can push your bounce rate high enough for HubSpot to review or restrict your account's sending.
How to verify email in HubSpot, step by step
The method that works on every HubSpot tier, with no app to install, is a round trip through CSV. It takes about fifteen minutes for a list of a few thousand contacts.
-
Create a custom contact property called Email verification status, a dropdown with the values deliverable, undeliverable, catch-all and unknown. Add a date property for when it was last checked.
-
Build the list you actually plan to email and export it as a CSV with the Record ID and Email columns. Verify the segment you are about to send to, not the whole database, unless the whole database is the audience.
-
Upload the CSV to a bulk email verification job. Deduplication and your suppression list run first, then each address is checked for syntax, MX records, the mailbox at the receiving server and catch-all behavior.
-
Import the results back into HubSpot, matching on Record ID, so the status lands on the existing contacts instead of creating duplicates.
-
Add an exclusion to the send: an active list of contacts whose status is undeliverable or catch-all. Set the undeliverable ones to non-marketing so they stop counting toward your marketing contact tier.
Catch-all rows deserve their own decision rather than a default. We cover the reasoning and a small test-send method in catch all email verification explained.
What to compare before you pay for a HubSpot email verification tool
Every vendor in this category claims high accuracy, so the headline number tells you almost nothing. These are the questions that separate them.
| Question to ask | Why it matters for a HubSpot account |
|---|---|
| Does it report catch-all separately from valid? | A tool that labels catch-all as valid looks accurate and still lets bounces through. You want the status as its own property value. |
| Do unknown and catch-all results cost the same as a confirmed one? | On an old database, a large share of rows can be unconfirmable. Paying full price for those adds up fast. |
| Can it write the result back to the contact? | A status that lives only in the vendor's dashboard cannot drive an active list or a workflow in HubSpot. |
| Can it re-check saved lists on a schedule? | Business addresses decay as people change jobs. One clean-up in January does not protect a send in October. |
| Can it also find the new address? | When a contact's address bounces because they changed jobs, the useful next step is finding them at the new company, not just deleting them. |
| Is pricing a subscription or credits? | Credits are fine for one clean-up. Recurring hygiene on a live CRM is easier to budget as a flat monthly plan. |
Marketplace app or CSV round trip?
Both approaches verify the same way under the hood. The difference is where the work happens and what it costs you to maintain.
| Approach | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace verification app | Checking new form submissions as they arrive | Per credit billing on every contact the workflow touches, including ones you never email |
| CSV export and re-import | Imported lists, old databases and pre-campaign checks on a specific segment | A manual step, so it only happens if someone owns it |
| Native CRM export from the verifier | Teams that find and verify new contacts outside HubSpot and push them in clean | Needs a plan that includes the integration |
Most sales and marketing teams we talk to end up with the second and third together: new prospects are found, verified and pushed into HubSpot already clean, and existing segments get a CSV check before any large send.
What HubSpot email verification costs here
EmailExtractor is a subscription with a monthly limit on verified results. Starter is $49 a month for 1,000 verified finds with CSV import and export. Growth is $149 a month for 5,000, and adds native export to HubSpot, Pipedrive and Salesforce, bulk jobs of up to 10,000 rows and scheduled re-verification of saved lists. Scale is $399 a month for 20,000 with the email verifier API and webhooks, which is what you use to verify contacts from a HubSpot workflow in your own code.
Undeliverable, disposable and unconfirmed rows and duplicates do not count against the limit. On a HubSpot database that has not been touched in a year, that is the difference between paying for the whole export and paying for the contacts you can actually email. Full detail is on the pricing page.
Clean data also changes what happens downstream. Sales reps who run personalized cold email sequences out of the CRM are the first to feel a dirty list, because every bounce comes from their own mailbox rather than from a marketing domain.
HubSpot email verification questions
Does HubSpot have email verification?
HubSpot verifies the address you send from, not the addresses you send to. It suppresses contacts after they hard bounce, but it does not check whether a contact's mailbox exists before the first send. To verify contacts ahead of a campaign you need an outside email verification tool, either as a marketplace app or through a CSV export and re-import.
How do I verify email addresses in HubSpot?
Export the contact list or segment you plan to email as a CSV, run it through a bulk email verifier, and import the results back into HubSpot as a custom property such as Email verification status. Then exclude undeliverable and catch-all contacts from the send with an active list filter on that property.
How do I check email health in HubSpot?
Marketing Hub has an email health view that shows your bounce, unsubscribe and spam report rates over time. It tells you how past sends performed. It does not tell you which contacts on your next list will bounce, which is the gap an email verification tool fills before you press send.
Does cleaning my HubSpot contacts lower my bill?
It can. Marketing Hub is priced on marketing contacts, so setting contacts with undeliverable addresses to non-marketing keeps you from paying to store people you cannot email. The saving depends on your tier and how many dead addresses you find.
How often should I re-verify HubSpot contacts?
Re-verify any segment before a large send if it has not been checked in the last three months, and re-check the whole database at least twice a year. Business addresses decay as people change jobs, so a list that was clean in January carries a meaningful share of dead mailboxes by the end of the year.
If the contacts you need are not in HubSpot yet, start one step earlier with the company email address finder and push only verified rows in. For the full pre-send sequence on any list, see how to clean an email list before a campaign.
